Another Break in Blogging

Just to let all of you who are following the blog know, we are leaving tonight with Shrikant & Cherayna to go up north to Rajasthan.
We will fly to Jaipur and then off to the west by train to Bikaner. We will be going into the Thar Desert by camel to have a 'Lawrence of Arabia' adventure, getting as close as about 90 miles to Pakistan. If we don't disappear :o) we will head back to Jaipur and then Rowan and I will part with S&K and go off east (Uttar Pradesh) by train to Agra and the Taj Mahal for Rowan's birthday!
We will not have computers with us and don't know if the cell phones will work. Look for some exciting new blog posts starting again on March 16th.

Phir milenge.

Work Update

Rowan and Skrikant have been busy in the lab the past week. They have gotten 'The Beast' set up in the lab and have been calibrating and setting up the programming to try and get the thing running. Shubha has also helped to decorate the machine to make it more inviting and friendly to the children who will have to look into it for the visual tracking experiments.

See, it's not all play! :o)

Elephants!

Feb. 28, 2010

On our way back from our Tea Safari, Murali asked us if we'd like to ride an elephant. This man thinks of the greatest things for us to do! Of course we both said yes, so he headed in that direction. Here are the photos:

The male to keep all the ladies happy :o)

This was our Mahout (elephant keeper) who looked after our elephant as we walked through the forest. He was quite the little charmer.

How to get an elephant to back up!

Rowan discovered that elephants like pineapple as much as she does.

After our ride, we got down off of the elephant and took a few moments to learn how to walk again. Sitting on the animals backbone is not a thing of comfort that I will describe to you here. Good thing this isn't the main mode of transportation in these parts, or we would be walking everywhere. Ouch!
On our way back to the resort we made a short stop in Munnar Town to pick up a few other items we want to bring home with us.

Munnar Town

This is our favorite road sign. They are found all over this region.

We got back to our bungalow, and this was all we could do after our very long, exciting day.

We leave in the morning to fly back to Hyderabad. Kerala has been an enchanting, magical and beautiful adventure. A place we will return to again if given the opportunity, as there is still so much more to see.
